Earlier dissertation:
The Business of Transatlantic Migration between Europe and the United States, 1900-1914 is a revised and rewritten version of a PhD dissertation completed at the University of California, Berkeley. (The slightly different dissertation title was "The Business of Transatlantic Migration between Europe and the USA, 1900-14"). The dissertation committee consisted of Gerald Feldman, Jan de Vries, Jon Gjerde and Richard Sutch. This dissertation was awarded the Gerschenkron Prize of the Economic History Association. Interested readers and writers are strongly recommended to consult and quote from the published book, not the earlier unpublished dissertation. The same principle applies to the related articles (use the final published versions, not preliminary conference or working paper versions).
